Pottery Workshops

David Jones from Walsall Studio Ceramics is teaching pottery at Tokonoma Bonsai Nursery.

In their first lesson students will be instructed on the techniques of constructing a slab-built cascade pot.

A Slab-Built Cascade Pot under construction

Lesson two covers the construction of a slab-built rectangle.

Lesson three deals with the building of coiled pots, round, oval or primitive.

Lesson four covers the construction of a complex slab built rectangle, or a pot of your own design.

All student abilities will be covered in each lesson.

Full instruction is given throughout the day, and at the end the student can select a glaze from the range available. David will then take the pot back to his workshop, dry it, biscuit fire it, apply the glaze, and then glaze fire it to Stoneware temperatures (1260 degrees C), resulting in a pot that is harder than granite.
